Not a Review : My New Rosewill Mechanical Keyboard

Most serious PC gamers, or people over the age of 30, are probably familiar with mechanical keyboards. Mechanical keyboards are different than the average modern day keyboard in that each key has a mechanical switch that must be pressed for the keypress to register. Contrarily standard modern day keyboards use a cheaper and easier to manufacture technology that has allowed the price of keyboards to come down dramticly over the last 20 years. A bare bones keyboard can be picked up for $5-10 bucks these days.  The early 80s era keyboards were mostly mechanical, so if your a computer user over the age

Half-Life 3 to Appear at Gamescom? *Updated*

*Updated* Gamescom officials have debunked the rumor. Apparently Halflife 3 and Dragon Age 3 will not be appearing at this year’s convention, but don’t let that discourage you. Plenty of other internet folks are already doing a pretty good job of denying it. Conspiracy theorists, feel free to sound off in the comments below. It’s purely internet speculation at this point, but a photo has leaked of a supposed games list for the upcoming Gamescom convention which features the title Half-Life 3. Don’t get your hopes up too high, Bioshock Infinite is also on the list and we’ve already been told

Dusting Off Steam : Just Cause 2

This is a new video segment Im working on with a preliminary name of  “Dusting Off Steam”. I have a habbit of picking up steam games that are on sale and letting them sit in my steam account never to be played. After a few months I often remember the game sitting there and decide to give it a go. In this video I fire up Just Cause 2 for the very first time, and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by how fun the game can be.  If I recall correctly I purchased Just Cause 2 on a steam sale for

Metacritic: The Developer’s Bane

I read a great article on IGN’s website today about the negative impact Metacritic is having on the video game industry. It’s a very well-written piece and a very important article if you have any interest in how games are developed and the ridiculous standards these hard-working individuals are being held accountable for. I have been opposed to Metacritic for a long time, mostly because the internet troll types can (and often do) take charge of the rating of a game in order to down-vote it for no other reason than they are sour about some usually simple and insignificant fact.

Gamers Nostalgia: Freespace 2

Published on July 10, 2012, by in Editorial, PC Games.

The first in what I hope to be a weekly article, Gamers Nostalgia is a look back on the games of yesteryears. An old CD (or perhaps even a floppy, if you have such a drive anymore) that might be worth dusting off and taking a second look at. This week, we take a look back on one of my personal favorites, dating back to 1999. Yes that’s right, it was the year we thought would be our last, when Y2K would set off an apocalypse and we were all supposed to party like a Prince song said we

Revisiting Old Favorites : Supreme Commander

Published on July 3, 2012, by in Editorial, PC Games.

Revisiting one of my all time favorite PC games.   A bit about my history with the game: Supreme Commander came out in 2007. It doesn’t seem like all that long ago, but for a PC game I would consider it to be certainly ageing at the least.  My love for the game actually started with the predecessor to Supreme Commander, Total Annihilation (TA) in 1997.  I spent countless hours playing TA and can remember rushing to get the latest weekly unit. I had all but cast these games off as memories of the past when something happened to change that and get me to play the game again.

Dear Developers : Make A Modern Day Successor to Ultima Online.

Published on June 29, 2012, by in Editorial, PC Games.

(A good  fantasy sandbox mmo) I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like there is a big giant hole in the MMORPG landscape right now. In fact for me, I have noticed this hole for over a decade.  I have had a craving for an open pvp sandbox MMO since Ultima Online introduced Trammel. Ever since then I have tried many mainstream MMOs. While I really enjoyed a lot of them, many didn’t deliver the type of experience that Ultima Online gave me. The game has a special place in my heart, and has left a void in

Subtle Innovation: How Guild Wars 2 Is Changing the Feel of the MMORPG

My thoughts after 40 hours in 2 beta weekend events.   NOTE: If you are not familiar with Guild Wars 2, you may want to check out my BWE1 impressions video. This article makes the assumption that you are somewhat familiar with the game. I’ve played quite a few mmos in my day. Ever since Ultima Online sunk its teeth into me, I’ve had a love for the genre. There is just something about being part of a large online world full of other people that appeals to me. For years I have met good friends, got

Tribes: Ascend – A Fresh Perspective

I am proud to introduce to Postgamer.net, our brand new female contributor/correspondent MurderBoner. In this article, she discusses her first impressions of Tribes: Ascend and the switch of gaming on a console to a PC. I haven’t played a PC first person shooter since Half Life so my “skills” are a little rusty. I traditionally play console games, so I guess there is a learning curve when transitioning from a controller to keyboard. I enjoyed the science fiction setting of the game even though it is not a new concept. I prefer the sci fi genre over realistic warfare games such
