Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Next Week

Warning: Minor Spoilers Ahead! If you have not yet completed Mass Effect 3, you may not want to continue.

Gaming's favorite Dynamic Duo

This year’s Mass Effect 3 was a fantastic 25-40 hour epic game that concluded a 3 game saga, and in the opinion of some players was marred by the last 5 minutes. The fan outcry was so loud that the developers have gone back and redeveloped the ending. While they have already stated that this will not completely change the endings or add new ones, it is meant to build on them and explain some things that had us screaming “WTF?” at our TV screens last March. Many gamers (myself included) were wondering just how certain characters ended up where they were at the end and why certain things happened the way they did. With new cutscenes, dialog, and a hefty 2GB download, this should hopefully alleviate some of those concerns. “It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings,” – BioWare.

Dr. Ray Muzyka stated during the announcement of the DLC that, “Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans, and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”

I myself will be looking forward to this one to see how things have been changed (hopefully for the better). And while I never thought our hero should end riding off into the sunset, a little more closure would be nice. Bioware have stated that to get the most out of the ending, players should continue from a save point before the last Cerberus mission if possible. Releasing on Tuesday June 27th, the download will be made available for free via Origin on PC, Live on Xbox360, and PSN on Playstation 3.
