Video: Magic 2013 – Encounter : Disturbing the Nest (Shandalar)

In this video I play through the 2nd fight in the Magic the Gathering : Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 campaign. For the fight I chose the red “Born to Flame” deck, which i felt worked nicely against what I am calling a “swarm of bees” white deck that the Shandalar encounter threw at me.
The main reason for the video it to show those curious about the game how it looks and plays. I posted some of my impressions earlier this week if you are curious about game features.
Most Magic players should not have a problem with this match up. If you find yourself having trouble, here are a few tips.
1. The Shandalar encounter uses lots of 1/1 flying creatures in this fight : make sure you have a way to deal with these from the start. In the video I took a bit of a gamble with a mana heavy starter hand, but I knew the early game mana would pay out in direct damage cards later.
2. Its ok to take a some hits if you have the right cards: I used to put a lot of attention into never taking any damage, you will have a pretty hard time in this fight if you play like this. I found that taking a few ‘pecks’ from the birds was OK as long as I could dish out damage next turn.
